Albion ace Bobby Zamora is ready to rule Britannia for England against Portugal tonight.

Zamora is poised to make his international debut for the under-21s at Stoke's sold-out Britannia Stadium.

Boss David Platt has indicated he will definitely play a part in the match, probably as a substitute.

The Seagulls' 32-goal hotshot has already impressed Platt in training following his call-up to a 25-strong squad packed with the best young talent in the country from top Premiership clubs.

"Bobby has scored goals and when you need someone to come off the bench to get you a goal you have to look at his record," said Platt.

"He has scored 30 goals for two seasons on the bounce. It gets harder the better the players you are up against, but the goals are the same size!

"It's quite daunting to come out of the Second Division and play in an England squad, but it doesn't look as if it has affected him.

"He always looks as if he has time on the ball, he has a great physique and good pace. When the ball is in the box he is always there between the posts, which is where he gets his goals."

Zamora could now be on course to sneak a place in the squad for this summer's European under-21 championships.

He said: "It's still a bit of a shock to come along and play with people like Wes Brown. I'm really trying to set my standards high and compete in training.

"I feel quite comfortable. I've had two sessions and I don't feel out of place. I feel I can learn a lot.

"Micky Adams took a gamble on me for Brighton and I'm eternally grateful for that. Micky moved on and luckily a quality manager like Peter Taylor came in.

"It would be a massive blow if he left. Doubtless he's got plenty more to teach us."

Taylor will be at the Britannia Stadium tonight, working as a summariser for Sky Sports.

"I am really pleased for Bobby," Taylor said.

"It is so deserved. Obviously he is a goalscorer, but he is a bit more than that.

"I was talking to David Platt about it and I told him he is a very good team player.

"I spoke to Bobby on Sunday and told him to enjoy it and be as confident as he is with us. I would be surprised if he starts, but I hope he plays a part at some stage."
