Albion boss Peter Taylor has labelled Michel Kuipers unlucky after a snub from his fellow pros.

The big Dutch No. 1 was overlooked for the Second Division PFA team of the season.

Bobby Zamora and skipper Danny Cullip were both selected, but Peterborough's Mark Tyler was picked ahead of Kuipers.

Taylor said: "Michel is a bit unlucky. People might think we are not the most attractive, or best team, but we are solid. Michel has been excellent and Simon Morgan has done nothing wrong all season.

"Our boys have been kept going sometimes because they have not had enough respect from other teams, but I am delighted for Bobby and for Danny."

Kuipers kept his 19th clean sheet of the campaign against Swindon at Withdean on Saturday. He polled 41 per cent of the votes for Albion's player-of-the-season award, just 2 per cent less than Zamora.

Taylor is preparing to give youth a chance in Saturday's closing fixture at Port Vale. He sees the trip to Vale Park as an opportunity to blood at least a couple of the players of the future, with the Division Two title already wrapped up.

"If one or two, like Morgs for instance, say to me they could do with a rest, I will let them. We won't be letting anyone down if we play a young team."

Taylor watched some first team contenders in the reserves at Worthing yesterday afternoon, as they beat his old club Southend 2-1 in the Avon Insurance Combination League.

Former Southend striker Daniel Webb, substituted at half time against Swindon, captilised on a mistake by keeper Gavin Kelly to give the Reserves a 10th minute lead.

Kelly hit a clearance straight against Webb who slotted the ball back past him via a post.

Phill Hadland added his first goal for the club on 63 minutes with a sweetly struck right foot shot from 20 yards.

Substitute Tes Bramble pulled a goal back for Southend 13 minutes from time.

The Albion line-up included Geoff Pitcher, back from a three-month loan spell at Woking.

Albion Reserves: C. Jones; Hinshelwood, Rowland, Virgo, Pethick, Pitcher, Hadland, Rogers, Lee, Webb, Wilkinson.

Subs: Marney,( for Rogers 68), Budd (for Pitcher 90), Packham.
