There's more good news for Brighton and Hove Albion today following the confirmation of their status as Division Two champions at the weekend.

It looks as if one of the two sites at Falmer the club would like for a community stadium, Village Way North, will not be included in the new national park for the South Downs.

The second site, at Village Way South, is still included in boundaries suggested by the Countryside Agency but that site is more prominent and further away from the main road and railway.

It is vital for the Albion that the main Falmer site remains outside. It would be hard to persuade the city planning committee, or a public inquiry inspector, to build a stadium within one.

Councillors will be able to give approval to the Albion's planning application while still claiming green credentials.

In time to come, the decision to keep Village Way North outside the park could be regarded as being almost as important as the club's second championship.
