Here we go again. Another council tax hike of 11.41 per cent and still probably the lowest in Sussex.

How many times have we heard this before?

The last time a rise of this percentage was enforced was for the city status bid.

Now Brighton and Hove is bidding to be European Capital of Culture in 2008.

To support the bid the city is running a year-long campaign promoting itself as a cultural centre and asking citizens how they would like it to develop in the next decade.

Brighton and Hove City Council has committed £150,000 to this venture.

Apparently, we've been asked how we want our money to be spent and this has been shown to be on policing, street cleaning and flood defences.

How about asking how we don't want it to be spent? Then, perhaps, we will see a reasonable tax rise.
