Eastbourne Borough will face Albion Reserves in the semi-finals of the Sussex Senior Cup after a 1-0 win over local rivals Eastbourne United.

United, who are languishing at the bottom of County League divison one, put up a brave fight but Andrew Ducille's 28th minute goal proved enough for the Dr Martens League side.

Borough boss Garry Wilson was full of praise for United's battling performance.

He said: "They battled for every single ball right until the very end.

"It is hard to see why they are at the bottom of their league when they play like that.

"We lacked our usual cutting edge tonight but at the end of the day it doesn't matter if you win 1-0 or 10-0, a win's a win."

United vice chairman Paul Garnell said: "We are extremely proud of the boys and if we keep playing like that we should stay up this season."

Borough always looked on top from the start despite United's non-stop effort throughout the match.

United had the first clear cut chance on six minutes but Lee Walsh's header was just off target.

Keeper Mark Oldroyd made two tremendous close range saves from Matt Allen and Ben Austin before Borough took the lead in the 28th minute.

A Matt Crabb cross was just touched on by Ducille past Oldroyd to give the home side the vital lead.

Crabb should have extended the lead in the 58th minute, but he fired well over from 20 yards before Ducille was inches away from Dave Adams' cross.

Borough's superior fitness began to tell and chances started to come thick and fast.

John Westcott, Adams, Allen, Stuart Tuck and Crabb all wasted chances to extend the lead but United never looked like scoring and the home side booked their place in the last four.

The other semi final will be between Hastings Town and holders Lewes. It is expected both ties will be arranged to take place next week.
