Lewes moved off the bottom of National League division one after a much needed 3-2 win at home to fellow strugglers Brooklands.

With one team being relegated and another going into the end-of-season play-offs, Lewes have still got a long way to go to pull themselves out of trouble.

But this win lifted Lewes a point clear of Chelmsford and leaves them locked on 12 points with both Brooklands and Stourport whom they visit this Sunday.

Manager Peter Boyse said: "I think we deserved it in the end. If we can play like we did on Saturday I don't see why we can't."

Jo Hill's unexpected return after injury in midfield boosted the home side a much boost.

That said, it was Brooklands who took the lead after just four minutes when Mike Renison punished a defensive error.

The equaliser came on 22 minutes when Barnaby Stubbs burst into the D and chipped the ball in over the goalkeeper and via both a post and a recovering defender.

Two minutes later Brooklands regained the lead when Dave Dowdall scored but Lewes equalised again soon after when Marnix Achterbergh poached a goal to make it 2-2 at half time.

Lewes were certainly the better side in the second half and the winner came on 56 minutes when Luke Hurle set up Simon Owen to net from a narrow angle.
