The launch of Brighton and Hove's Where Else campaign signalled the race to become European Capital of Culture 2008 and highlights our potential to be recognised both nationally and in Europe.

The proposals indicate how important, culturally and historically, the city could become.

In addition, the West Pier Trust and St Modwen have unveiled plans for the restoration of the Lottery-funded West Pier and adjoining shoreline. This was seen as a positive step towards reclaiming the historic landmark after 25 years of dereliction.

The restoration of the famous pier would enhance the seafront aesthetically, regenerating the surrounding seafront area.

These events clearly illustrate a marked increase in momentum to improve and develop a better Brighton and Hove. A city of vibrancy, colour and innovation should be ever developing.

The successful city bid was the catalyst for Brighton and Hove to reconsider its possibilities. These developments have proved the city is forging ahead in an effort to maximise its huge potential.

If Brighton and Hove is going to be the Place To Be, leaders must, vitally, be positive and motivational, optimising the opportunities that exist for the future of Brighton and Hove.
