Strike action by railway workers, which crippled train services across the South, has been called off indefinitely.

The series of one and two-day strikes by the Rail Maritime and the Transport Union in December, January and February, hit South West Trains services.

Routes through London were affected and there were no services on the Brighton-Reading via Chichester route on strike days.

The company runs six services a day out of Brighton, which provide fast links with Worthing and Chichester.

The action - three separate 48-hour strikes - was about pay and the disciplining of union members by South West Trains.

The union announced last month it had suspended strike action and has now confirmed strikes are off permanently.
