Bognor maintained their promotion push from division one with the help of a freak winning goal.

Gareth Greene's cross to the back post looked to be going well wide until it got caught on a swirling wind and dropped inside of the goal in the 60th minute to seal a 2-1 win against Windsor and Eaton.

Manager Jack Pearce was delighted with three points. He said: "At this time of the season the result is everything, performances do not come into it. I don't feel the opposition could have anything to complain about, we deserved all three points."

Bognor opened the scoring after 12 minutes when David Wright's pass across the face of goal was put away by the sliding Matt Russell at the far post.

Within minutes David Birmingham pulled a shot wide when he should have done better and then Charlie Balfe was denied by visiting keeper Trevor Bunting, while Nicky Wyatt went close, as Bognor coped better with the windy conditions.

But with Rocks seemingly in control they were caught out by a long ball over the top. Dean Wordsworth held off the challenge of Kevin Murphy and delicately chipped the ball over the advancing Craig Stoner to level in the 32nd minute.

Worthing should have gained their first win in 12 games at fellow strugglers Wealdstone but again squandered chances in a 1-1 draw.

Barry Lloyd's Rebels, who fell behind to a 61st-minute strike from Mick Swaysland, took control after Gavin Jones levelled eight minutes later.

But the hosts, winners of only one of their last 21 league matches, survived as Worthing struggled.

Ben Carrington and Paul Kennett were both off target before Rebels defender Warren Smart cleared off the line, and Gavin Geddes dragged a great chance wide from only eight yards four minutes from time.

Geddes, scorer of only one goal in his last 11 games, had taken the ball towards the centre of the goal after cutting in from right, but he put his shot past the near post.

Worthing could still have clinched it as Kennett twice got himself into good positions, but his shots were saved by Andy Carter.

Wealdstone, who should have taken the lead when the unmarked Brian Hammatt headed wide on 29 minutes, deservedly broke the deadlock as Swaysland struck from 12 yards with a shot past the left hand of goalkeeper James Wastall.

Worthing's equaliser was an untidy one, Jones converting from six yards after Geddes missed the chance when Andy Alexander sent in the ball towards the far post.
