As part of the Falmer For All campaign, I recently assisted in petitioning shoppers on a Sunday outside Churchill Square, Brighton, for their support for the new stadium.

Despite the cold weather, we found the vast majority of those asked were more than happy to stop to sign our petition. I was particularly heartened by the number of middle-aged and older people who voiced their strong approval, stating they wanted a community stadium to be enjoyed by their children and grandchildren.

There were a few people who just rushed past going about their business, who couldn't have cared less either way. The one and only dissenting comment was made by a Falmer resident, whose remarks put him in

the Nimby category. However, even he thought there should be a stadium and suggested Waterhall. Presumably, a far greener area than Falmer was okay as long as it wasn't on his doorstep.

The picture I took away from Churchill Square that day was that the people of Brighton and Hove and surrounding areas do want this stadium and they want it at Falmer. It's down to Brighton and Hove City Council now to make it happen.
