Reading about the convicted 28-year-old mother of eight neglected children, who is now expecting another child, made me wonder whether enforced sterilisation is actually practised anywhere in the Western world.
I agree it may seem authoritarian but what else could be done with such a totally irresponsible person, apart from locking her up long term?
This woman may go on to have other children who, even if lucky enough to be adopted, will carry huge burdens for the rest of their lives.
