Gatwick operations director David Cumming is leaving to become managing director at Southampton Airport.

Mr Cumming, 53, who leaves at the end of March, has been responsible for both terminals at Gatwick, the airfield, engineering, information technology and security since 1997.

He joined British Airports Authority in 1968 at Heathrow, working mainly in terminal operations, although he has also worked in planning, airfield operations, IT and onward travel.

Most of his career has been spent at Heathrow, although for two years from 1988 he was manager of south terminal, Gatwick.

Mr Cumming became general manager of Terminal Two at Heathrow in 1990.

He became general manager of Terminal One in 1992, at the beginning of a major development of the terminal to increase its capacity and improve customer service.
