Schoolboy fans of Fatboy Slim have been immortalised on their idol's new album cover.

Teenage pals John Medhurst, Mo White, Alex Jones and Tom Rajan have pride of place in the crowd scene featured on the cover of Fatboy Slim's new live album.

Fatboy Slim Live On Brighton Beach was recorded at the Hove-based DJ's free performance last summer.

Fatboy Slim, real name Norman Cook, lives in Hove with his celebrity wife Zoe Ball and their son, Woody.

The four 16-year-olds went to the beach several hours early to make sure they were at the front of the 35,000-strong crowd. Little did they know their efforts that night would be rewarded once the album was released.

Rugby fan John, of Stanmer Villas, Brighton, said: "I couldn't believe it when I saw all my friends had been put on the cover.

"I telephoned everyone I knew to say that we were famous.

"It's very exciting. It's going to be really strange seeing it when the album goes into the shops.

"Of all the pictures they could have used I can't believe they used that one of us."

Mo, of Ashford Road, Brighton, said: "It's fantastic to be on the album cover.

"We went to the concert a few hours early to make sure we were right at the front when Fatboy Slim came on. The gig was brilliant and now we're on the cover as well."

The four friends, who attend Varndean School in Brighton, can be seen cheering and waving in the forefront of the picture while fireworks explode above the Palace Pier in the background.

John, who runs his own mobile disco and DJs at parties every weekend, hopes to follow in his idol's footsteps one day.

His mother Lynne said: "John is a real Fatboy Slim fan. He is a real Brighton boy.

"To see himself on the album cover is such a wonderful thing for him and his friends. It couldn't happen to a nicer bunch."

A spokesman for Norman Cook's record label, Southern Fried Records, said: "It's great that The Argus has found these lads.

"We'll send them some artwork and posters. It's the very least we can do really, considering they are on the cover and right at the very front.

"It's nice that they're from Brighton as well. I know that Norman wanted to put Brighton on the world map and this is certainly what this album will do."

John's Manic Disco will be playing at the Babylon Lounge club in Hove on Wednesday.

The album, Fatboy Slim Live On Brighton Beach, will be released on Southern Fried Records on February 25.
