In a climate where the NHS is the centre of all that is negative, I must offer some praise. In the past few months, my aunt of 92 had three appointments, one for glaucoma, one for a hearing aid to be fitted and the last for a CT scan for her eyes.

We were in and out in 40 minutes for her ear appointment and the same for her glaucoma - very quick and the staff cheerful and efficient. For the CT scan, because I had to park in Eastern Road, Brighton, a very charming volunteer took me right up to the department.

The receptionist explained because of an emergency they were running one hour late and let me phone home. I am delighted to say they got through all the patients in 40 minutes - not bad going.
