Ivor Caplin's outburst at Dr Caroline Lucas over Gatwick's expansion proves he has been rattled by her views and is scared the electorate may well be more in tune with her than him.

Behind all the bluster about noise and low-flying aircraft lies the fact that the pollutants which come out of aircraft engines are irreparably damaging the atmosphere upon which we depend for life.

Expanding Gatwick would be simply pouring aviation fuel on the fire that is global warming.
