Nick Buckfield won a gold medal at the AAA Indoor Championships in Cardiff.

The Crawley athlete took the title at 5.40m but just missed 5.65m, which was three centimetres above his national record.

Steyning's Niobe Menendez won a silver in the 3,000m walk and set a British record. She finished behind Irish walker G.O'Sullivan in a brilliant 13min.08.64sec.

Julie Mitchell, from Burgess Hill, won a silver in the 1,500m (4min.26.0sec).

Cardinal Newman schoolteacher Julia Bennett, who is hoping to make the Commonwealth Games team in the heptathlon, leapt 1.84m. to take second in the high jump.

Lucy Webber, from Burgess Hill, shared third place with the Italian Lisa Ballotta in the pole vault. Both cleared 3.90m but could not be separated on countback.

Horsham Blue Star's Clare Milborrow had a superb run in the 60m hurdles, which included most of the leading British hurdlers. She clocked a personal best 8.40sec and was fourth.

Patrick Davoren (Phoenix) has won the Sussex 10km title at Chichester in 31min.32sec.

Brighton and Hove's Paul Stacey took silver in 31min.52sec with Tom Naylor (Phoenix) third.

Reigning champion Darryl Hards clocked 32min.13sec and although he lost his individual title, did win a gold medal as part of the winning Phoenix team.

The race incorparaed the Chichester 10km road race and that was won by Andy Morgan-Lee from Salford (30min.46sec).

Marion Sutton (Westbury), one of the top British marathon runners of all time, decimated the field as she clocked 33min.57sec.

Jane Harrop (Chichester) won the Sussex crown in 37min.14sec, with Crawley's Julie Briggs in second (39min.43sec) and Brighton and Hove's Julie Drake third (39min. 50sec).

Horsham Joggers took the Sussex team title.
