If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I would never have believed it - 9.30pm, midweek, a traffic warden and a towaway truck collecting a small car from the back of an empty ten-place suburban taxi rank.

Clearly, this is of no public benefit whatsoever. So come on, NCP and Brighton and Hove City Council - and The Argus - let's have some figures.

How much is the profit for each impounded car? How is this divided between NCP and the council? How does this revenue reflect in our local tax bills?

Will there be any compensation in the form of reduced business tax for companies who lose income thanks to falling visitor numbers to what is, at root, a tourist city?

And who was the idiot who thought a private company would put public service before its own profits?
