Nick Greenwood has admitted Eastbourne Borough's 1-0 Sussex Senior Cup win over County League leaders Burgess Hill was not the blood and guts affair he had expected.

A Dave Adams goal was enough to separate the sides at Leylands Park but what on paper promised to be a classic encounter never quite lived up to expectations.

Greenwood said: "We obviously enjoyed our win at Leylands Park but I felt it was a bit of a subdued affair.

"I thought it would an all guns blazing type of match in front of a big crowd but although it was only 1-0, we felt it was possibly more comfortable than we expected.

"We had more of the ball and more of the chances and I expected more of a passionate affair in front of a bigger crowd."

The draw has been kind to Borough as they will entertain the victors of the Selsey versus Eastbourne United third round replay scheduled for today at Priory Lane in the last eight.

Greenwood said: "We would be happy with either side in the quarter-final although it obviously gives United a big incentive."

He added: "It's not a bad draw especially as we could get Brighton and Hove Albion in the semi-final if they get through their games."

If Borough were to make it to the Sussex Cup final, they would have home advantage as Priory Lane is the venue for the showpiece game.

Greenwood said: "It wouldn't change as the final always used to be at the Goldstone Ground and Brighton were usually in it."

Borough also have a home quarter-final in the Dr Martens League Cup against Ashford after coming out the hat first in last Saturday's draw.

The cups look the best chance of silverware this season, although Greenwood admitted the club are still looking to strengthen the squad for next season when the main focus will be on promotion.

He said: "We are looking around at the moment and expect to sign one or two players before the end of the season. It is important to get them in soon so they are already settled for next season when we start again."
