The Rap Dictionary web site is not so much weird as interesting and unusual. It is hard to imagine a similar web site for country and western fans or goths.
Although rap and hip-hop music have been absorbed into our popular culture, there has been a certain amount of confusion about the lyrics and what they mean.
The site, which describes itself as "trying to create a little bit of order in the chaos of rap-related information", contains masses of information, from a dictionary to album suggestions for fans of the music.
The dictionary, which has been on the web since 1994, covers from "a", which means going to, as in "I'm a do it like this" onwards. Visitors will soon be up to speed on rap lingo.
In the wish list section, people can seek help deciphering unexplained terms.
Unfortunately, the dictionary includes a number of expletives and parents may want to monitor usage by their children.
If you don't know much about rap artists there is a who's who, featuring artists from A Tribe Called Quest to Zone-TDK.
If you know what rap music you like but are not sure what other albums might appeal, there is a suggestions page.
Once you have answered basic questions about a few albums, the site will return a list of other things to listen out for.
Surfers who prefer Eminem to the Beach Boys should tune in. You couldn't wish for a more comprehensive resource but mind your language.
