Rogue timeshare operators are still trapping holidaymakers into "expensive rip-off schemes", says the Consumers' Association.

Common cons included supposedly "free" holidays with inconvenient departure dates at short notice, the association's Holiday Which? magazine reported.

Timeshare legislation did not go far enough "to prevent con merchants selling schemes that usually turned out to be too good to be true", said the magazine.

It added high-pressure sales presentations were commonplace in big tourist destinations such as Costa del Sol.
