Loan striker Scott Ramsay could not wait to make an impact for Bognor.

So much so he wanted to take the penalty-taking duties off stand-in skipper Jamie Howell.

Ramsay's coolly taken 68th minute spot kick sent Rocks on course for their 2-0 Boxing Day win at Worthing and atoned for Howell's first half failure from the spot.

It was the ideal debut for the powerfully built striker, who stepped in after injury prevented Danny Marney from tasting action in the Ryman League.

It could also turn out to be Ramsay's farewell appearance for Jack Pearce's men. He damaged ligaments in his right ankle towards the end of the match and, despite immediate attention from acupuncturist Heidi Simpson, faces a three week lay-off.

That will be a blow to Rocks and Ramsay alike, but at least he has a goal to remember from his time in the Ryman League.

Ramsay said: "I've taken a few penalties for Brighton reserves.

"I wanted to take the first one on Boxing Day but Jamie said 'No, I take them'.

"I wasn't going to let him take the second one after what he did with the first."

Ramsay had a spell at Conference outfit Yeovil earlier in the season and is determined to force his way into Peter Taylor's first team squad.

He said: "There are no games for the reserves after Christmas and I haven't played for a while.

"I had a think about it and decided to come and give it a go.

"Saturday's game at Harlow was called off so my first one was Worthing away.

"This sort of football is very competitive, more so than reserve football. It's fast and furious. Everyone wants to put a tackle in and you don't get as much time on the ball to get it down, turn and play.

"With there being no games Peter Taylor can't come and look at you and it's not always good to pick people on training performances.

"But in games like these, where it is competitive like the Second Division, maybe Peter Taylor can come and watch and assess me and, if he thinks I'm good enough for a place in the first team, then all well and good."

Ramsay had a couple of early chances, seeing a miscued shot deflect to James Wastell inside two minutes, then firing in a well struck drive which the Rebels goalkeeper did well to block.

He then got few chances to shine as the home side got on top, until Andrew Beech's foul on Matt Russell gave him the penalty chance.

Ramsay's contribution was brought to an abrupt end 15 minutes later with an ankle injury which required immediate attention from Simpson.

The two Bognor strikers were resuming a partnership they last struck up in a friendly for Albion at Athlone 18 months previously.

Ramsay said: "I already knew a couple of the Bognor lads. Matt Russell was with us over in Ireland and Nicky Wyatt was at Brighton for a little while. He was a lot slimmer back then though."
