Hastings Town's Landry Zahana-Oni is considering taking legal action after he suffered a fractured cheekbone following an off-the-ball incident in a friendly against Sidley.

The Frenchman had an x-ray on his cheek after the behind closed doors friendly at the Pilot Field on the Tuesday before Christmas.

Doctors say Zahana-Oni could be out for as long as ten weeks following surgery on Saturday, and officials at the Pilot Field will wait until the success of the operation is known before taking the matter further.

The former Luton hitman signed a contract till the end of the season for the Dr Martens eastern division promotion chasers recently after a string of fine displays following his move from Dulwich Hamlet.

Town are three points off the top with a game in hand on leaders Grantham and they travel to Burnham tomorrow.

Manager George Wakeling said: "As far as I am concerned it is out of my hands. I don't really want to talk about it. It is something that shouldn't have happened and it is a big blow. Landry is gutted that he can't be a part of what is happening. His presence has been a big lift for everyone at the club but we can't dwell on that."

Sidley joint manager Glenn Sully played in his side's 2-1 win against Hastings.

He said: "Even with my limited understanding of law they won't have a leg to stand on. I was three yards away from the incident and the referee didn't take any action.

"We substituted our player afterwards and it would be best if Hastings spoke to us first in future. It was a friendly behind closed doors and we were trying to do them a favour."

Eastbourne Borough will be missing the injured Matt Smart (knee ligaments) for the visit of Chatham Town.

Burgess Hill are going on a mid-season break in preparation for their showdown with Dorking in the last 32 of the FA Vase.

The Hillians are taking a 24-man party to Spain to enjoy facilities previously used by the likes of Bayern Munich and Leicester City.

The trip, which is being funded jointly by the club and the players themselves, appears to be unique for a club of Burgess Hill's status.

The County League leaders leave England for La Cala on Monday January 14, five days before their tie with Dorking.

Manager Gary Croydon said: "We will be doing four days of training, a little bit of R&R (rest and recuperation) and we are going to be playing a local side, Fuengirola.

"We have already had a very hard season. We have played 33 games already and could have played 35 by the time we go away.

"I was at a Premiership game the other evening and looking in the programme, I found that these players had played 20 games at best. Our lads are amateurs. We are looking forward to it. It is something unusual, something different and the players deserve a break after 35 games."
