Graham Morris made a goalscoring debut as champions Sidley United went second in Rich City County League division one with a 4-0 drubbing of Redhill.

The new signing from Hailsham scored with a rocket shot five minutes before half-time to send Sidley on their way to a comfortable victory.

Joint manager Peter Heritage, who scored Sidley's third goal, said: "He was definitely our man-of-the-match. We are made up with that performance."

Adam Day and Chris Scott were Sidley's other scorers in a dominant display.

Burgess Hill went ten points clear thanks to a lone Phil Churchill strike after 61 minutes at Eastbourne United.

United boss Micky French said: "It was a typical bottom versus top game. We didn't get the breaks.

"Their manager Gary Croydon asked me 'Why are you bottom?' and we don't know ourselves."

Three Bridges were knocked out of second spot when they lost 4-2 away to new-look Pagham.

Debutants Jason Broomhall and Brett Fordem, signed from East Preston, were on target for Pagham along with two other new arrivals, Alex Stay and Justin Turnill.

Manager Paul Gilbert, who has been forced to completely rebuild the side after taking over from Richie Reynolds, said: "It was a good team performance. We got in behind them a few times early on and it was a very good result."

Matt Baker and Pat Massaro, with his 18th of the season, scored for Bridges.

Selsey suffered only their second defeat of the season when they lost 1-0 away to Peacehaven.

Keith Mtambara scored the only goal of the game with a 77th- minute penalty after Ian Costello had been brought down. Costello was also felled for a first half spot-kick which Jon Lockhart failed to convert.

Former Sussex manager Jim Thompson, who has joined the coaching staff at Piddinghoe Avenue, said: "The first penalty was against the run of play, to be fair, but the second one wasn't because we were well on top by that stage."

Tony Holden's prolific spell stretched to 12 goals in four games with a brace in Ringmer's 5-1 win away to Littlehampton.

Shaun Grice also scored twice after Chris Johnson had opened the scoring. Teenager Shaheen Sadough netted for the Marigolds.

Hailsham Town fielded a side made up entirely of home town boys for the first time in 30 years and they were rewarded with a 1-0 win over Whitehawk.

The only goal came on 72 minutes when Scott French fed Steve March and his delightful cross was met by advancing full back Steven Monk.

Two Joel O'Hara headers sent Horsham YMCA on the way to a 3-1 home win over Southwick.

Wayne Potbury produced a classy finish to re-ignite the contest 11 minutes from time but substitute Mark Francis settled matters after winning a challenge with Wickers' keeper Richard Whittington outside the penalty area.

At the bottom, there were important wins for both Hassocks and Sidlesham.

Joe Fernley scored twice, with Marc Rendall and Micky Turner also on target as Hassocks came from behind to beat rock bottom Saltdean United 4-2. Daniel Jordan and Brad Dougal replied.

Hassocks boss Dave John said: "You have to beat the teams down there with you. It was quite tight but we were always just a bit better than them."

Sidlesham moved up to third from bottom after Kevin Moore (two) and Glen Bridgeman helped them to a 3-0 win over Wick.

Manager Richard Towers said: "Let's hope we can go on from here. If we have a nice little run, that will really help us."

Shoreham went 14 points clear in division two after beating Broadbridge Heath 3-1 thanks to Stuart Townsend, Martin O'Donnell and an own goal.

In the Vernon Wentworth Cup, Steyning Town's Richard Lester scored seven times as his side crushed Saltdean Reserves 9-0.
