A firefighter called to deal with a serious car accident found his mother dead in the wreckage.

Shiralee Hammond, 43, died in the crash when the minibus she was driving collided head-on with a lorry driven by a man from Sussex.

Among firefighters called to the scene was her son Jason.

The crash happened on the A47 between Dereham and Swaffham. Norfolk. Mrs Hammond, of Dereham, died at the scene.

The minibus Mrs Hammond was driving was in collision with a lorry travelling in the opposite direction.

Police said it appeared the lorry had swerved to avoid a parked vehicle.

Four passengers in the Ford Transit minibus were also injured.

The lorry driver was not injured but was treated for the effects of shock.

Station Officer Paul Davey described the incident as "every firefighter's worst nightmare".
