So the Clock Tower in North Street, Brighton, which has been covered in scaffolding since God knows when, is now to be covered in advertisements.

What an advertisement in itself for this so-called city - I wonder what visitors will think?

We are told it cannot be completed and shown in all its glory because the experts can't get the bell equipment to work in the way it should. What a pathetic excuse.

When this tower was built in Victorian times, everything worked. So, bearing in mind how many years ago that was, the workers in those days must have been far more clever than experts of today.

And they did not have the equipment or expertise of today.

Why not tear out the old machinery and install a new clock, as the original people did?

Food for thought - or perhaps such skills no longer exist and we are going backwards.
