I wonder how long it will be before the surface of Hollingdean Road, Brighton, breaks up and collapses because of the persistent lack of repairs?

The worst section is the south side, especially outside numbers 37-43, 97-105 and May Cottages. Outside number 37, there is now what can only be described as a crater whose base is about 4 to 5 inches below the true road surface.

It is difficult for the heavy traffic that thunders along this road day and night to miss such holes, which are getting worse every day. The road surface outside numbers 97-105 has perished completely.

Typically, a neighbour's letter to the chief executive of Brighton and Hove City Council, sent on November 3, has not yet received a reply.

The council should be well aware of the state of this road - its depot is less than half a mile away and every council vehicle and employee uses this section of road at least twice a day.

Why has Hollingdean Road never been resurfaced in the ten years I have had the misfortune to live in it, whereas the far less heavily used Upper Lewes Road has been surface-dressed at least three times during the same period?
