Hastings Town are counting on their lethal strikeforce to fire them into the Dr Martens premier division.

Town cannot stop scoring at the moment. They crushed premier division Folkestone Invicta 5-0 in the Dr Martens League Cup on Tuesday, three days after thrashing Corby Town by the same score in a league fixture.

Hastings lie second in the eastern division with two games in hand on leaders Grantham.

George Wakeling's side have won seven consecutive matches during which they have averaged over four goals a game.

Town experimented with a three-pronged attack against Folkestone and the decision paid off immediately when they took the lead after just four minutes.

Frenchman Landry Zahana-Oni opened the scoring with his seventh goal in four games following his move from Ryman League Division One side Dulwich Hamlet last month. He is credited as the catalyst for Hastings' goal bonanza.

The former Luton hitman initially arrived on loan at the Pilot Field, but after a series of impressive performances, the 25-year-old has signed a contract until the end of the season.

Zahana-Oni has linked up with Town's Lee McRobert and Paul Jones to devastating effect and with Chris Honey on the bench, Hastings have plenty of options in attack.

Captain Tony Burt said: "There are a lot of games in a season and Tuesday was an opportunity to try something else and experiment.

"The manager went with three strikers to see what would happen and the results could not have been better. It is up to him to decide whether we will carry that formation into the league.

"It is good to know if we have to play with three upfront, to chase a game or whatever, we can."

Burt was full of praise for the Frenchman, who manager Wakeling knows from their days together at Bromley. He sold the striker to Luton where Zahana-Oni went on to make nine first team appearances.

"He has done very well," said Burt. "His ability is there for all to see. He always has time on the ball and leads the line well with his back to goal.

"You can tell he has played the game professionally. We have basically the same squad as last season when we did all right, but we have added about three new players and they have all fitted in.

"The whole season has gone well and we are very pleased. We are where we want to be in the top three and as long as we are there by the New Year then things are looking promising.

"We always had the potential to score lots of goals and it has come together in the last two games."

Hastings match report will appear online on Monday.
