Last Sunday evening, my Nan left her house in Old Shoreham Road to post some Christmas cards down the road.

After struggling a short distance, she realised she would not be able to get any further and, in fact, could not get back to her house either.

She propped herself up on the front wall of a house and waved her walking stick at a passing motorist.

The driver of a works van stopped and not only assisted my Nan back to her house but also posted her cards.

She is extremely grateful to him, as are the rest of the family. Unfortunately, she was too distressed to take note of the man's name or details on the side of the van.

As an elderly widow living alone, she has been the victim of several bouts of vandalism to her home recently and also had her purse stolen while out shopping.

This act of kindness has restored her faith in human nature. We all wish this thoughtful stranger a very merry Christmas.
