When my old TV set conked out recently, I decided to be up-to-date and buy a digital set, with the better reception and extra channels promised.
But be warned, in Brighton and Hove at least, it is a postcode lottery as to whether one can receive digital TV.
I was advised to tune the new set myself because it was so simple but, after numerous attempts and ringing various helplines, I was unable to get any digital stations.
Back at the retailer, I was advised to get my aerial upgraded but this additional expense proved fruitless.
I was then advised that other parts of the city, tuned to other transmitters, can receive digital.
At least I can see the four analogue channels okay and will be ready when the digital revolution reaches this area - whenever that may be.
