Bognor maintained their position at the top of division one with a 5-1 victory at Whyteleafe, but boss Jack Pearce was far from satisfied.

He said: "I was pleased with the win and to score five away from home for two weeks in succession is always nice. But the overall performance left a little to be desired and we need to work on things at training."

The Rocks were made to fight harder than the scoreline would suggest and were helped when home goalkeeper Andy Iga was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Bognor took the lead after seven minutes when Jamie Howell found Guy Rutherford who crossed for Matt Russell to rifle past Iga from close range.

The home side equalised in the 15th minute when Daniel Nwanze played a ball over the top of the defence and, although Craig Stoner looked to be favourite, the goalkeeper's hesitancy allowed Leion Dillon to nip in and fire home.

Iga was then booked for throwing the ball at a linesman in disagreement over a decision.

Bognor regained the lead in the 50th minute when Howell played a delightful ball behind the home defence allowing Richard Hudson score.

The game turned in the 60th minute when Iga was deemed to have brought down Russell inside the box and was then beaten from the spot by Howell.

Iga was unhappy with the penalty decision and saw red when he kicked the ball out of the ground.

Defender Leigh Doule replaced Iga and, despite denying Russell, there was nothing he could do to prevent Nicky Wyatt extending Bognor's lead in the 79th minute.

Russell netted his second and Bognor's fifth in the 85th minute when another fine ball from Howell split the home defence and the striker raced clear to beat Doule.

Horsham scored their eighth consecutive win with a 6-1 division two victory over Cheshunt at Queen Street.

Hornets manager John Maggs said: "I'm delighted. In the first 45 minutes we were awesome and it was game over by half- time. I've been able to give my subs a run out and we still won both halves.

"We've proved now we're not just a flash in the pan. We've been doing it for six weeks and I hope we keep on doing it."

The Hornets took the lead after just four minutes. Gary Charman was obstructed a yard inside the penalty area and John Kirby rolled the indirect free-kick across to Luke Gedling who crashed the ball just inside the left post.

Lee Carney doubled the lead on 16 minutes and Gedling's second seven minutes later was a mirror image of his first. Charman's cross found Kirby in the penalty area and the big striker rolled the ball back for Gedling to drive home.

The Hornets went into the interval 4-0 up through Steve Payne.

They made it 5-0 after 54 minutes when a defensive clearance rebounded off Kirby into the path of Payne who thundered the ball into the goal.

The visitors scored their consolation goal two minutes later through Scott Beattie but the hosts finished off the scoring a minute when Marcel Dennis netted.
