The producers of a short film bidding for glory at next year's Bafta awards were stunned at the response from extras willing to help.

No fewer than 200 volunteers turned up for the shoot after an appeal in The Argus.

Brothers Dom and Lee Santana appealed to readers for help recreating the era of Noel Coward at the Theatre Royal, Brighton.

Now the brothers are hoping to arrange a special screening in Brighton as a thank-you to all those who turned up.

The brothers were filming an adaptation of Coward's play The Red Peppers last week.

They work as a team producing and directing and hope to concentrate on feature films.

However, Dom will also be working on episodes of EastEnders for the BBC early next year.

Their last film was nominated for a Bafta in the best short film category. This time they are hoping to win the award.

Lee, 36, said: "We have almost finished filming. We will be doing some pick-up shots on Friday and some more filming on the seafront.

"We are editing at the moment and we should deliver the film to Bafta in January.

"The final date for nominations for awards is January 28 and the ceremony is in February."

The film was shot by the brothers' film company, Danny Boon Productions, which was named after a character in the movie Billy Liar.

Lee said they persuaded actor Leslie Randall, who played Danny Boon in the film, to make a cameo appearance in The Red Peppers.

Other stars included Russell Tovey, David Schofield and Carla Mendonca, who played Mrs Cholmondely-Warner in Harry Enfield and Chums.

Lee said: "I would like to thank everyone at the Theatre Royal and all the extras.

"For our previous film, The Last Post, we arranged a private screening at the Odeon, Leicester Square. We are hoping to do something similar this time but it would be nice to have something local."

Lee added he and Dom, 33, were keen to find sponsorship for the editing work and anyone who helps could be in line for a ticket to the Baftas.

Anyone who can help should call Lee on 01273 603463.
