A security guard needed hospital treatment after a late-night attack.
He was ejecting two men from the b2 convenience store near Brighton railway station in Queens Road when one punched him in the face.
The guard chased the men into Trafalgar Street where one man hit him with a metal pole.
The victim was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, with a suspected broken bone in his hand.
The men were seen running away in Frederick Place.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the attacks which happened at about 11.30pm on Tuesday.
