Old boys of King's Mead School in Seaford want to save the crumbling chapel which is in danger of demolition.
It is now part of St Mary's Nursing Home whose owners, Westminster Health Care, are closing the home because it cannot meet new Government standards.
The chapel, converted from a historic barn at Ripe and moved to the coast, contains memorials to former pupils who lost their lives as young men during the Second World War.
Ideally, their efforts will lead to the saving of the chapel which could be converted into community use for the people of Seaford.
But if this is not possible, the memorials should be saved, perhaps by transferring them to a church in the town.
Seaford was celebrated for its schools but now nearly all of them have closed. The town should help these public-spirited old boys in attempting to save a feature of one which is part of local history.
