Eastbourne Downs have ended the three-year reign of Brighton and Hove in the Royal Bank of Scotland junior am-pro.

As past winners, Brighton and Hove hosted the event for 20 teams and, in a four-way tie, Eastbourne Downs got the nod on countback.

Led by professional Terry Marshall, The Downs had 127. Their countback figure was 61 compared to 62 by The Nevill, Pyecombe 64 and Worthing, 65. You cannnot get closer than that.

In this sixth year of competition the event included an individual professional 18 holes and Phil Bonsall, of Brighton and Hove, won with 69 to show just how much local knowledge is required there, especially now that the semi-rough has been allowed to grow.

The Downs winning team comprised Matt Bell, Ryan Knapman, Chris Larkin with Terry Marshall organising things expertly on the course.

Representing The Nevill were Simon Handley, James Rostard and Richard Coleman. The professional was Julian Reason.

Pyecombe's youngsters were Michael Stoner, Matthew Gorringe and Ian Hudson and Michael Ovett was their professional. Worthing's Steve Rolley presided over Steve Toleman, Craig Newman and Robert Francis.

Defenders Brighton and Hove finished on 129 followed by Piltdown and Sweetwoods Park on 130.
