The weird and the wonderful will be on sale at a collectables fair in aid of The Argus Appeal.

Collectomania will take place at Hove Town Hall on November 11 with 160 stalls covering everything from Coca-Cola memorabilia to autographs.

Tony Young, who has been collecting autographs for five years, will bring 2,000 of his treasured signatures to sell. Among his collection are the scribbles of Paul Newman, Robert Redford and Vivien Leigh.

Mr Young's most expensive item is a programme from the 1950s which he bought from an American who used to stand outside the MGM studios in Hollywood each day to catch a glimpse of the stars.

One day he got lucky and 15 celebrities signed his programme, including Elvis Presley and Elizabeth Taylor. The programme will be on sale at Collectomania for £550.

Mr Young, who owns a shop in Edward Street, Brighton, said: "The fascination with autographs lies in the fact that the paper they are written on has been touched by someone famous."

Other stalls will sell antiques, crafts, bric-a-brac and clothes.

There are still pitches available for hire at a cost of £35 each. A percentage of money raised will go towards the needy of Sussex through The Argus Appeal. There will also be a raffle and tombola.

A two-minute silence will be held as the event falls on Remembrance Sunday. The fair will be open from 10am to 4.30pm. To book a stall phone 01273 462215.
