Broadbridge Heath gave their convalescing manager Sam Chapman a much-needed boost with a 4-0 victory at home to Oving in division two of the County League.

Chapman is recovering from an operation to his neck and was delighted with four cracking goals and three much-needed points.

Heath and Oving are at the wrong end of the table and Chapman said: "It is a little early in the season to be talking about six-pointers but a win is good for confidence.

"We have had seven or eight players out for one reason or another this season and an unsettled side has struggled."

Paul Young's opening goal after 17 minutes was the pick of the bunch. His 30-yarder flew in to the back of the net via the underside of the crossbar.

Andy Howard volleyed the second from a set piece six minutes before half time and Ian Ford added the third after 75 minutes with a diving header. Shay Moulden completed the scoring in the last minute following a one-two behind the defence.

Oakwood made sure Shoreham did not extend their lead at the top with a 3-1 win at home to Seaford.

Gerald Manville fired them in front in the first half and further goals followed from Adam Simpson and Chris Belgrave's last-minute penalty. Roy Ranger replied for Seaford.

Shoreham were 5-0 winners against Bosham on Friday and are four points clear at the top of the league.

Rye United continue to impress in third. They beat Shinewater 2-0 with a double from central midfielder Paul Tuppenny and have games in hand on Shoreham. Manager Alan Hodd said: "I don't think we will be far away at the end, it depends on how many cup competitions we get involved in."

Willie Whittington scored the only goal as Mile Oak beat Wealden 1-0.

Withdean's top-table clash in the Combined Counties League against Chessington and Hook finished as a 2-2 draw at Queen Street.

Boss Mark Stevens said: "We had four good penalty shouts, two for handball, but the referee was poor."

Withdean twice came from behind through Justin Simmons and an own goal and dominated the last 20 minutes when leaders Chessington had a player sent off for a second bookable offence.

Stevens added: "They were a good side but we should have won the game. We dominated and played some nice football. We were camped in their half for the last 20 minutes of the game."
