Anyone who knows anything about the internet knows how tricky it can be to develop good web pages without spending a lot of time learning complicated software packages.

Focus Multimedia have re-released Serif's Web Studio, a package making basic web page creation relatively easy.

The software is on a single CD- ROM which installs and runs automatically. No tricky installation glitches and the whole process takes just a few minutes.

Beginners will like the way the programme offers a range of templates allowing the user to take a very basic site and customise it to suit his own needs.

There are plenty of features, including something called Intelligent Formatting which drove me to distraction before I realised its limitations and stopped asking it to format text in ways it did not understand.

It could be more aptly named Particularly Stupid Formatting.

The package allows the user to develop sites for business and private use but do not expect all the bells and whistles. This is a base-line product offering a rather limited selection of user- definable options, including the opportunity to import your own images and text into the site.

I quite enjoyed using Serif Web Studio once I recognised all its limitations. It is a simple enough package to learn and produces wholly adequate, if a tad stylised web pages.

Having used the package for a couple of hours and built yourself a site, you would have no problems recognising web pages developed with this product.

Top feature has to be the logo creator which allows the user to build a logo that can be exported to any word processing package to preserve and maintain the corporate look presented by the web site. This is a very clever piece of programming and one I will find useful in the future.

Pricewise, the package is unbeatable. For less than £10, you have all the tools you need to put your information online and you cannot ask for more.
