A new speaker system developed in Sussex is enhancing the listening experience for music lovers.

Design and manufacturing company Blueroom, which has bases in Brighton and Worthing, has launched a minipod bass station for home music systems.

Marketing director Alberta Benedetti said: "The bass station is a sub woofer which fills in the low frequency range generally not reproduced by small speakers.

"The sound is especially important for the modern dance music market and home cinema systems which are growing in popularity."

The bass station is squat and drum-shaped. It has been designed for visual impact as well as sound reproduction.

Ms Benedetti said: "We want to achieve a quality product but also a range which looks great and can be completely integrated into today's modern homes.

"The high-fidelity industry in general has not adapted to the modern trend for speakers which match interior design. We want to fill the gap.

"Most people think a square cabinet is best but a rounded speaker is a much better option.

"It minimilises distortion and makes the sound clearer."

Blueroom began operations in 1994 as a division of Worthing-based B&W Loudspeakers. It became a separate entity two years later.

The company's first speakers were made by hand and targeted at the club market.

The current range has been re-engineered and production is by a Danish company.
