Martin Menezes and Victor Walcott were in splendid form as Crowhurst Park extended their lead at the top of the East Sussex League.

With Ringmer losing and Chiddingly only drawing, victory for Crowhurst Park over DPB was an important result.

On a lifeless wicket, home side DPB started well with James Bentley (68) and Ian Rippengal (25) putting on 88 for the first wicket.

Park nabbed two quick wickets through Walcott (4-49) but a series of dropped catches allowed Richard Horne (45) and Terry Penfold (43) to put on 81 for the third wicket and the innings eventually closed at 213-5.

In reply, Park were struggling at 62-4 when Menezes (120 not out) and Walcott (49 not out) came together. They blitzed the bowling to all parts of the ground with a stand of 155 in less than 17 overs to lead their side to victory.

The team to benefit most from other results was Wadhurst who climbed to fourth place after a six wicket win at Fletching.

The home side were bowled out for 101 with only Ali Horscroft (32) showing any resistance to the bowling of Aussie Geoff Teys (4-39) and Jim Harwood (4-43). Teys then struck 43 not out as Wadhurst reached their target with only four wickets down.

Ringmer's demise at Rye was unexpected. Everything looked to be going well as the home side were dismissed for 126 with Murray Barnett taking 3-12 and Colin Coddington 3-34. Ringmer then collapsed to 75 all out with David Dee (4-19) and Martin Blincow (3-19) doing most of the damage.

In a rain affected game at Ditchling, Chiddingly made 166-8 from 36 overs despite good bowling from Johnny Atkinson, who claimed five wickets. Ditchling made 142-8 from their allotted overs.

The second century in the top flight came from Mike Paige whose brave knock of 121 not out helped rock bottom Herstmonceux to victory at home to Newick.

The visitors made 263-3 with contributions from Ed Young (78), Stef Ashford (61), Tim Gill (43 not out) and Miles Caldwell (33 not out). Paige injured his thumb while fielding but agreed to bat despite heavy swelling and joined Will Francis (37 not out) in an unbroken stand of 126 which saw Herstmonceux recover from 113-5.

Division two leaders Seaford were forced to hold on for a draw at home to a young Heathfield Park side. Simon Briggs (57 not out) and Andy Russell, with a patient 48, helped Heathfield post a total of 175-8. John Smith bowled unchanged for 25 overs to claim 4-42 while Paul Mason took 2-33.

In reply, skipper Clive Chipper hit 48 but John Reynolds (12) was the other batsmen to reach double figures as the leaders were restricted to 115-7 with Briggs and Matthew Bashford taking three wickets apiece.

Glynde had the better of a draw with promotion rivals Battle. Glynde made 230-5 with contributions from Danny Shepperson (75 not out), Dave Proctor (42) and Adam McBrown (37). In reply, Rob Quiney struck 34 but Battle were left struggling on 113-8 at the close, Shepperson taking 3-13.

St Peters won by two wickets at Lewes St Michael's. The home side amassed 248-4 with Andy Whiting (78), Dave Wilcock (71 not out) and Gary Martin (40) leading the way. St Peters passed that total thanks largely to Giles Ward (67) and Matthew Knight (66). Adrian Breeds took 4-74 for St Michael's.

Bottom side Buxted Park were convincing winners over Rottingdean. Andy Meed top-scored with 30 as Buxted made 200-9, with C. Cartwright picking up 5-62. Rottingdean collapsed to 62 all out with Simon Bulteel (5-21) and Martin Coleman (4-17) chief destroyers.

The match at Iden was abandoned at tea due to rain. Visitors Barcombe had made 204-8 from their 50 overs with Dave Taylor hitting 93 while Bob Page and Chris Tucker added 33 apiece.

Division three: Beaulieu 246-5 (Russell Jones 102, Paul Brett 71) drew with Tunbridge Wells Borderers 219-9 (Nick Edwards 60, Andy Longley 52); Hellingly 168-4 (Rob Pye 67no) beat Rotherfield 165-8 (John Baldock 50); Little Common 200-6 (Iain Meredith 49, Ali Burnett 45) drew with Uckfield Anderida 211-8; Pett 236-6 (Andy Goodsell 82, D. Hesketh 51no) beat Maresfield 53 (D. Hesketh 6-11); Pevensey 144-3 (Paul Elliott 65no, James Wallis 45no) beat Polegate Stone Cross 143 (Rick Scott 55, Paul Nunney 4-36).

Division four: Battle II 234-9 (A. Collier 76) lost to Glynde II 237-7 (Mick Howarth 88, Graham Goode 5-57); Dicker Butterfly 46 (Paul Barter 4-23) lost to Hailsham 47-1 (Barter 31no); Wadhurst II 111 (David Roberts 5-20, including a hat-trick) lost to Robertsbridge 231-8 (Graham Nicholls 60, Peter Goodsell 43, Mark Steadman 41); Willingdon 166 (C. Lindop 81) lost to Newhaven 240-1 (Rohan Pooley 106no, Steve Izzard 74no).

MICK Baldwin played the starring role as leaders Selmeston maintained their six point lead in the Cuckmere Valley League.

Baldwin hit 98 not out as Selmeston totalled 201-4, with Patrick Hole adding 50. East Dean never threatened the target and closed on 122-9 with Baldwin (2-15) and Adrian Burden (2-16) tying them down.

Blackboys took the honours in a rain affected clash with Alfriston. Reduced to a 25-over game, Blackboys made 151-5 with Jamie Marchant scoring 68 not out and they then restricted the visitors to 95-7, with Simon Harmer (28) top-scoring.

Firle are fourth after an 88-run triumph at Nutley. Richard Ellinor (61) and John Stevens (45) helped Firle set a total of 200-8. Mark Reed struck 41 in reply but Nutley were restricted to 112-8 with Richard Climpson picking up 3-24.

Bells Yew Green were eight wicket winners atPreston Village. Watkins (42) and Firth (32) helped Preston reach 190-8, with Chris Fox claiming 4-20. Andy Brooks scored 87 not out and Dominic Bowen an unbeaten 50 in reply.

The match between Burwash Weald and Withyham was rained off.

Division two: Firle II 156 lost to Laughton 253-7 (Colin Turner 70); Mayfield 166-7 (Robin Ellis 49) beat Ridgewood 108-3 (Simon Aldis 53no) on faster run-rate; Bells Yew Green 175-6 (D. Tapp 51, S. Hazel 51) beat Denton 175 (Paul Barton 4-27) by virtue of losing fewer wickets.
