A historic windmill's sails have finally been re-hung after months of bad weather.

The 180-year-old windmill, known as Jill, in Clayton, near Hassocks, had been without two of her 360kg sweeps since they were taken down for painting last September.

Torrential rain and high winds during autumn and winter made it impossible for the sails to be put back again before spring.

Then foot-and-mouth restrictions on the South Downs stopped the work from being carried out Jill - its twin windmill is called Jack - now has all four sweeps again and is able to mill flour.

The windmill is open every Sunday until the end of September from 2pm until 5pm. It will be open on July 24 from 11am until 5pm for an alternative power day.
