I have repeatedly been told parking proposals for Hove are not a money-making scheme. As such, I was interested to see the front-page news of the local newspaper in Northampton on my visit there last weekend. A very similar parking scheme had come into force the previous week and the paper reported that, during that week, more than £110,000 had been collected in fines with more than 440 parking tickets being issued on the first day alone.

If a similar amount of money is attained from those parking in Hove, could it not be split between all those living in the area who are being massively inconvenienced and also charged for the privilege? This will be the only way Brighton and Hove City Council will be able to achieve its non-profit-making goal.
