Onlookers screamed with laughter during a popular carnival as sheepdogs herded geese around the legs of small children.

The bizarre but entertaining spectacle was one of the more unusual displays at the 29th annual Hove Park Lions Carnival.

David Seamark, who takes his sheepdogs and geese to shows across the country, provided a hilarious performance which gave both youngsters and their parents a treat.

Thousands of people attended the carnival in aid of local charities.

The only downside was the weather, with Hove shrouded in a sea mist which threatened to thwart a jump by the Tigers free fall parachute team.

Andrew Nichols, one of the organisers, said: "It's a great event and it is generally well supported.

"We raised more than £11,000 last year and a large proportion of that went straight back into the community. We hope to raise even more this year.

"The weather is not brilliant, but this is the kind we like because it is not too hot so people don't decamp to the beach."

Winning raffle ticket numbers were: First prize 4894 and, in descending order, 3611, 5214, 4708, 1408, 3148, 2899.
