A man was killed in a road accident after he began walking along the A27 near Lewes.
He was walking east on the westbound carriageway when he was struck by a Nissan Primera car at Ranscombe Hill.
The driver of the Primera, a Lewes man, suffered shock and his car was slightly damaged.
Police are trying to trace the dead man's relatives and have not yet released his identity.
