Lewes A are no longer the whipping boys of the East Sussex Senior League.

They are likely to finish the current campaign in sixth place.

Lewes only went down by six frames to four at Newhaven, despite a poor start when Paul Davies, the Hastings No. 1, hit a break of 87 to take the first frame 87-22 against Ashley Ball.

Ball probably amazed himself by getting his head together to take the second 62-15.

Sean Payne then ended Chris Quinnell's inter-league career 58-33 and 68-27, including a break of 40.

James Loft pulled off a spectacular win against Barry Goldsmith to put Hastings back in front again. A break of 45 gave the youngster the first 62-53 before he really asserted himself to take the second to the tune of 66-29.

Hastings skipper Mark Tilbury took the first off Gary Page 61-51 before pulling off a spectacular victory in the second 72-65 on the respotted black.

The fourth Lewes point came from Richard Barrett who took out Adam Appleby 57-24 but Appleby hit back to take the second frame 53-21.

Lewes B's youngsters had a major problem against Eastbourne C whose players have all had Eastbourne League Division One experience.

Lewes No. 1, Adie Lepper, was unfortunate to lose out to Spencer Dane 38-30 and 50-19.

Ollie Stalley was then hammered by Pevensey's Dean Phillips 64-19 and 75-32.

Wayne Hill lost out to 15-year-old Paul Watson, making only his second appearance for Eastbourne, 61-39 before Hill gained the second 68-18.

Ian Whitehorn hit a break of 30 to beat Neale Hoad 60-49 before Hoad gathered himself to take the second 73-20.

The seventh Eastbourne point came from Jon Avery, who hit a 33 to take out Lee Matthews 52-24, before Matthews gained the third Lewes point 70-38.
