Samsung is not the first name to trip off the lips when talking about mobile phones.

But that may be about to change.

The dual-band Samsung GSM SGH-A110 amazed me.

This phone comes smaller, lighter and easier to use than many other handsets. It is compact with a slim, attractive clam-shell design and weighs just 87g.

The large graphic display makes sending text messages so much easier. It supports six lines of text.

The Samsung has an onboard PIM (personal information manager) which includes a calendar, a to-do list and calculator, ring customisation, own melody creation and seven games.

All in all, performance is excellent even when signal strength is low.

The phone is extremely stylish and remarkably well-constructed.
