Andy Richards (Opinion, May 16) was misleading.
Managing parking more effectively throughout Brighton and Hove is a fundamental part of Brighton and Hove City Council's transport strategy.
The details of the council's proposed staff travel plan have been issued to all staff through Coastline, their monthly newsletter.
It makes it perfectly clear any staff who have to use their own car to carry out duties on behalf of the council will not be out of pocket.
They will be issued with a car parking permit or, should they wish, a bus pass.
It is only those staff who use their cars to commute to and from work that will have to pay to park on-street, similar to the staff of other employers.
The £2-a-day charge for long-term pay-and-display (up to ten hours) is justified and is the same price as travelling to and from work by bus.
Free on-street parking in central Hove has never been part of anyone's contract of employment.
