M Burgess (Opinion, May 18) needs to think carefully before voting for the local gay Tory candidate, David Gold, in the election.

While it is certainly the case Labour hasn't lived up to its promise to repeal Section 28, it was the Tories who introduced it in the first place.

I find it hard to believe the party has abandoned its long-standing (and deep-rooted) homophobia.

Certainly, the Tory party has made no effort to repeal Section 28. In fact, it was Tory peers who campaigned to keep it.
