George Yeoman led home a fleet of 14 Optimists at Chichester Yacht Club.

There was Optimist sailing and racing on Sunday for 14 boats and the first six races in the series for the Lady Todd Trophy over Sunday and Monday.

The good conditions did give way at times to a few sudden shifts in the wind and a capsize or two. Experienced Yeoman was followed by a number of talented youngsters including James Ponsford.

The classic single-handers ruled the roost among the 14-strong handicap fleet on both days with Derek Jackman in his Solo and Richard Smale in his Streaker leading on points. The Solo had four wins, a third and an eighth and the Streaker a first, two seconds and a third, not starting in the last two races.

On Sunday Mark Harper, Ian Payne and Jonathan Miles had good results in their Lasers, together with Geoff Miles in his Finn, while in the last race Roger and Andy Clare took a fourth in their RS400.

On Monday Ed Gatehouse in his RS600 came to the fore with a second and a first, while newcomer Roger Millett notched up a third and John and Pauline Cox in the only RS400 to venture forth, came fourth.
