A night watching Kissi Faramaya is guaranteed to get the audience on their feet and shaking their behinds.

The Komedia brochure promised an unsitdownable performance and, for once, we all did exactly what it said on the can.

The only complaint about this brilliant evening would be the shortage of shake-down time for the rhythm-starved junkies chomping at the dance floor bit. But the time spent not dancing to these complex, blood-racing tribal beats was time well spent watching the thrilling dancing of the Kissi Faramaya troupe themselves.

The evening kicked off with a trio of wary backpacker girls being entranced by an African witch doctor and falling under his "You've got the moves girl" spell.

It was a knowing nod to the mostly white Afro-phile audience who, at times, seemed like a group of holiday-makers enjoying a tour-group organised culture-and-booze night.

But the girls soon got their groove and exhausted themselves - and us - with some literally breathtaking dancing.

It was an impressively professional and energetic performance by a group of musicians and dancers converging from as far afield as The Gambia and Arundel. I'll be snapping up a ticket next time they're in town.
