A skip lorry shed two tonnes of glass on the A27 near the Adur flyover in the middle of today's rush hour, causing traffic chaos.

A bolt is believed to have sheared off the back of the lorry, spreading glass across the westbound carriageway near the Sussex Pad traffic lights, Lancing, at 8.20am.

Delays were caused in both directions as Adur District Council contractors cleared up.

One lane was reopened after half an hour and the road was back to normal by 9.20am.
